Brief

EA Productions was awarded funding from Arts Council Wales to develop and create an immersive experience combining theatrical and digital disciplines inspired by the book 'The Little Blue Planet Needs You' written by Frances Bella. This would form the foundation for phase 2 of the project, resulting in a production that would be open to the public. The timeline is yet to be agreed but this will be in 2023.

Process

It was agreed that the R&D would consist of two stages, research through a series of performative library readings of the book and an intense three-day development of ideas with EA Productions associate creatives.

The library readings gave EA Productions the opportunity to present the book to the target age group along with related activities to test out the ideas and themes of the book. This allowed us to gauge what worked and what didn't. It also tested if our original ideas on the target age group were correct or not.

The time in the space with our associate creatives allowed us to share and discuss ideas for the next phase of development. Coming together as a hive mind of creatives allowed us to scale down the concept for a larger version of the experience to something that was more realistic in the shorter term.

Delivery

At the end of the R&D the team presented a sharing of our ideas and plan for the over arching project and the next phase. This outlined the digital technologies we will be looking to include, set design and theatrical elements. The first draft of the script has also been developed and a dedicated website will be going live shortly.
